The Emperor

As the Empress represents the divine feminine, the Emperor represents the divine masculine, and is associated with the male figures in one's life, father, brother, or husband. The Emperor speaks to us of confidence and wealth, of security and comfort.

He brings order out of the chaos, and protects and defends what is important to him. He lays the foundations for the future, turning self-discipline and practical effort into success, and indicates stability and leadership.

Appearing in the negative aspect he can indicate coming into contact with officials or the establishment, and also projects the negative aspects of masculinity - immaturity, indecision, petty emotions, and a lack of strength.

L’imperatore is the paternal aspect of nature, and is typically viewed as the one who provides.

He represents the divine masculine inside us all, the Yang to the Empress’s Yin. The divine masculine and divine feminine need to be balanced within us all in order to achieve harmony with the world around us, and with each other. Without that balance, the divine masculine inside us can become toxic, and the Emperor can represent the worst of male emotions, and can certainly help identify which areas need to be worked on to restore balance to the soul.
